Double Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 26 west of Madras

Two Central Oregon people died Tuesday evening and two other people suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 26 about four miles west of Madras.

On December 4, 2007 at approximately 4:45 p.m., a 2001 Buick Park Avenue driven by Warren Clifford Price, age 85, from Bend, was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 113 when it was passing a westbound backhoe and sideswiped an eastbound 1998 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Franklin Arthur Hileman, age 59, from Crooked River Ranch. The Buick Park Avenue was now traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into an eastbound 1998 Hyundai driven by Leah L. Boise, age 52, from Warm Springs.

Price and Boise were pronounced deceased at the scene.

David Valdez, age 54, from Madras, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, was transported with injuries to Mountain View Hospital in Madras.

A male juvenile, age 7, from Warm Springs, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, was seriously injured and transported by Airlife to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Highway 26 was closed and a detour established by Oregon Department of Transportation for approximately 3 hours.
