State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 128 North in Waltham

On October 21, 2007, at approximately 2:43 a.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Concord responded to a two vehicle crash on Route 128 North at Trapelo Road (Exit 28B) in Waltham that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Matthew Routhier that 50 year-old Christian N. Ighodaro of Hyde Park was operating a 2004 Ford sedan on Route 128 North when he stopped in the left travel lane and was struck in the rear by a 2007 Jeep Wrangler SUV operated by Lawrence P. Laine of Templeton.  A passenger in the Ford, 22 year-old Matthew B. Wasser of Bernardsville, NJ,  was seriously injured in the crash and subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.  Ighodaro was taken with serious injuries to the Lahey Clinic.  Laine was uninjured in the crash but was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.  Waltham EMS and MassHighways assisted Troopers at the scene.

The left three lanes were closed for approximately 3 hours during the crash investigation and vehicle removal.
