Singer, Brandy Sued Multiple Times Over Same Accident

Staff Writter, Jan 20, 2009

The details of an accident that involved the singer Brandy on December 30, 2006 still haunt her.  Not just because of the accident itself but because she is being sued yet again over the accident which claimed the life of Awatef Aboudihaj.  Directly after the accident, Brandy admitted fault but she was obviously upset and disoriented because she crossed the busy lanes of traffic on foot not once but twice after the incident.

The accident happened at 10:00 AM.  Brandy was driving her 2007 Land Rover at 65 mph and did not notice that cars in front of her had slowed considerably.  Brandy’s rover struck a 2005 Toyota which in turn struck a 1998 Toyota.  The 2005 Toyota slid and hit the center divider.  As the 2005 Toyota came to a stop at the divider, it was struck by a 1988 Acura.  The driver of the 2005 Toyota was Ms. Aboudihaj who died the next day at the hospital.

The most recent lawsuit involves not only Brandi but Ms. Aboudihaj.  Donald Lite, who was also a party in the accident, is the person filing the lawsuit.  Brandy also has other lawsuits pending that were filed by relatives of Awatef Aboudihaj, specifically her parents and on behalf of her two children.  Her widower has also since filed a lawsuit.  Prosecutors declined to file criminal charges.

The latest lawsuit comes on the heels of Brandy’s recently released album.  Since the accident she has kept a pretty low profile and was just beginning to come back out into the public light.  The singer was obviously affected by the incident and has recently professed a newfound goal in life to be more understanding and to have more of a purpose in her life.  It seems the singers luck hasn’t gotten much better as far as lawsuits go.

At the time of the accident, police recommended that the prosecutors charge Brandy; they found insufficient evidence to do so.  Since that time the lawsuits have been stacking up against the singer.  The latest comes 3 years after the accident.  The deceased family seems to want to each sue individually for the tragedy.  Since there were up to 25 other people involved in the accident, it is difficult to tell how many lawsuits may be pending before it’s over.  Of course, for the singer, it will probably never be over.  She will always have to live with the memory of that accident.
