Fatal Hit & Run Pedestrian Crash - Highway 101 between Gold Beach and Brookings

Oregon State Police, with the assistance of the Curry County Sheriff's Office, is continuing the investigation into a fatal hit and run crash Monday morning that left an adult male deceased on Highway 101 between Gold Beach and Brookings. The involved vehicle and driver have not been located, and the victim is identified but next of kin have not been notified.

On December 10, 2007 at approximately 10:20 a.m. a report was received of a deceased male on Highway 101 near milepost 349 near the Whale's Head Beach Resort. The victim, who is identified as a transient 24-year old male, was seen by a Curry County Sheriff's Office deputy pushing a shopping cart in the area about 20 minutes earlier.

Roadway evidence indicates the victim was hit by a southbound vehicle. The investigation indicates the vehicle may be a blue unknown make or model sedan that should have extensive front damage including broken lens covers and broken headlight.

The involved vehicle may be traveling on Highway 101, Highway 199, or secondary coastal roads in southern Oregon or northern California.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Oregon State Police Southern Command Center dispatch at (541) 776-6111.

Police and area emergency responders were on scene investigating this incident until about 2:00 p.m. All lanes were closed about 30 minutes and then traffic was shuttled through the area using the northbound lane.
