Our daughter has a pit bull, what liability do we have if it bites someone?

I recently got a pit bull which is a puppy right now. Me and my wife are worried about future liability issues incase our dog might bite someone in the future. Would there be any defense?

Many states have dog bite statutes that put you at strict liability if your dog bites anyone, regardless if they haven’t bitten anyone before. However, certain state laws can vary in terms of penalties and such; also there could be certain situations where someone had displayed aggressive behavior toward your animal, or attempted to even attack it which may put you at grounds to have the extent of the charges reduced. In either case, you will more than likely be held liable and should be careful with your dog in public as pit bulls are known to have aggressive behavior.
