Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury, also known as TBI, occurs when there is a trauma to the head that causes brain damage. All traumatic brain injuries are serious; although symptoms can range from mild to severe. Often, traumatic brain injuries are the result of an accident such as motor vehicle accident, a pedestrian accident, a bicycle accident or a skiing accident. Traumatic brain injuries can also be caused by an assault to the head. Little, if anything, can be done to reverse brain injuries so emergency medical personnel usually focus on preventing further damage. Traumatic brain injury patients often benefit from continuing rehabilitation therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and social services.
