Symptoms Of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas that can be cause sudden illness and even death. It is found in combustion fumes such as those emitted by cars, gas ranges, gas heating systems, or burning charcoal or wood. Because it is colorless and can't be smelled, it is difficult to detect when it builds up in a room. All too often it is only detected after someone becomes very ill or dies. The symptoms of low-levels of carbon monoxide poisoning mimic flu symptoms, food poisoning or other illnesses. Low level carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms include: shortness of breath, mild nausea, mild headaches. Often, the person who is sick will feel better upon leaving the house or area where the carbon monoxide is and become sick again after returning. Moderate levels of carbon monoxide exposure can cause death if exposure continues for a period of time. The symptoms include headaches, dizziness, nausea and light-headedness. High levels of carbon monoxide can cause death in a short period of time ヨ literally minutes. All families who use natural gas for cooking or heating need to have a carbon monoxide alarm in their home to prevent any level of carbon monoxide exposure.
