Strict Liability

Strict liability is a presiding concept of civil law that places liability on certain people for property or actions that are potentially dangerous. Where strict liability applies, a person is liable for the damages caused by their actions or property, regardless of whether or not they were directly at fault. They are strictly liable. In the United States, many dangerous activities and property follow the rules of strict liability, but the most evident is seen in the liability of a dog owner for his dog. In many states, dog bites fall under the rule of strict liability, meaning that anyone harmed by a dog can pursue damages from the owner, whether or not the owner was negligent. Strict liability is also applicable to circus owners who must control dangerous animals and to companies that handle blasting operations.
