Spinal Injury

A spinal injury is damage to the spinal cord that is occurs because of an accident or intentional act. There are two types of spinal injuries: a complete spinal cord injury and an incomplete spinal cord injury. In a complete spinal cord injury the victim is paralyzed below the level of the injury. In an incomplete spinal cord injury the victim may have movement and sensation below the level of the injury. A spinal cord injury is a medical emergency and victims should seek immediate medical attention. Extensive rehabilitation is often necessary after the patient has been stabilized and emergency symptoms have been treated. A spinal injury is also known as a spinal cord injury or SCI.
