A spinal cord injury is damage that is done to the spinal cord as a result of an accident, an intentional act or a medical condition. The most common causes of spinal cord injuries are motor vehicle accidents followed by acts of violence, falls, sports and recreation injuries and finally diseases. A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone but higher rates are seen among men than women and among people in the 16 ﾖ 30 year old age group than in other age groups. The symptoms of spinal cord injury are not always easy to diagnosis and may be subtle.
