Pharmacy malpractice insurance is similar to the type of malpractice insurance which can be purchased by physicians. It is designed specifically for pharmacists to help safeguard themselves against claims of malpractice and lawsuits. Although pharmacists are to some extent protected by their employer there have been lawsuits in recent years which have targeted specifically pharmacists and pharmacy staff as opposed to the hospital or business employing them. Pharmacy malpractice insurance aims to help pharmacists cover themselves for the potentially large payouts which may result from these personal malpractice lawsuits. Pharmacy malpractice insurance is still unlikely to cover a pharmacist who has not followed the appropriate practices and procedures which would be expected of them.
