Pharmacy Malpractice

In the world of medicine, the pharmaceutical component is one of the largest and most important parts. Doctors diagnose and treat conditions but pharmacies are the final line in dispensing the actual medications that provide the treatment needed. It would seem logical to assume that such a large and important industry would have excellent quality control. However, pharmacy errors do occur and as a result pharmacy malpractice. Pharmacy malpractice occurs due to errors on the part of the pharmacy, including: Incorrect management of dosage that reflects changes in the condition of the patient; Failure to call attention to potentially harmful medication interactions; Distributing the wrong medication, wrong dosage or wrong amount; Failure to have history of a patient and recognize conflicts with existing allergies to medications; Giving incorrect medical advice to patients when dispensing medications. Some patients catch the errors and no harm is done. They are familiar with their medications and alert the pharmacy. Others, particularly the elderly or people with new conditions and medications don't realize there are errors and serious injury or even death can come as a result.
