Lead Paint Notice

A lead paint notice is a document which details the amount of lead paint which is present in a house which is to be rented or sold. The document is designed to meet the Lead-Based Paint Disclosure Regulation. This was passed in 1996 and states that it is mandatory to disclose to potential buyers or tenants the amount of lead paint still present in any house built before 1978. The document must be signed by both seller and buyer in the case of sale of the home, or owner and tenant in the case of leasing the home. Two copies of the lead paint notice must be made, and the tenant or buyer given one to keep. The idea behind the lead paint notification is to ensure that people moving into the house are aware of the health risks which may result from the exposure to lead paint.
