Lead Paint Lawsuit

Since 1978 it has been illegal to use lead paint in residential premises due to recognized health risks especially in children. Lead paint may result in lead poisoning, which can cause impairment to intellectual development for those exposed. In recent years there have been successful lawsuits filed against the companies which actually manufactured lead paint before this time. It is the first time manufacturers have been held responsible for the ill health suffered by many living with the paint. For example in Rhode Island in 2006, three different manufacturing companies were held responsible for mitigation costs arising from the effects of their lead paint. Similar cases have ruled these manufacturers responsible for resulting lead poisoning in other states including Ohio, Mississippi and New York.
