Lead Based Paint Pamphlet

In 1992 Congress passed the Residential Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Act of 1992, also known as Title X. This Act is intended to protect families from the health hazards of being exposed to lead from paint, dust and soil. Section 1018 of this Act requires that HUD and the EPA require that housing built before 1978 that is going to be rented, sold or leased also come with a pamphlet approved by the EPA. This pamphlet gives information on identifying and controlling lead paint hazards in homes. The pamphlet is a 17-page pamphlet available in several languages that is put together by the EPA, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. It contains information on how to protect family members from lead hazards; how lead gets into the body; the effects lead has on the body; how to identify lead hazards and where lead-based paint is found. The pamphlet also includes information on how to remodel or renovate a home with lead based paint and how to reduce lead hazards in the home. The brochure ends with a directory of phone numbers and sources individuals can call if they need more information or help with lead in their home.
