Hospital Medical Malpractice

Hospital medical malpractice is the improper or negligent care of a patient resulting in harm to the patient. Hospital medical practice involves more than just the practicing doctors, it also includes nurses, technicians, pharmacy staff and other hospital employees. There are many ways hospitals commit malpractice, some resulting in minor injuries and inconveniences and others resulting in death to the patient. Malpractice can be based on mistaken diagnosis, the failure of hospital staff to treat a patient, failure to monitor or stabilize the condition of a patient, failure to refer patients to the appropriate specialists, and failure to order the proper tests for diagnoses. Improper treatment is the most common hospital medical malpractice as this covers administering the wrong medications, improper dosing of medications, incorrectly using anesthesia, improper use of medical equipment and a host of other avoidable medical mistakes. Preventable infections are another form of medical malpractice. Improper cleaning and cross contamination resulting in staph and other types of infection are highly preventable and can be means for malpractice. Not every illness, injury or death that occurs during a hospital visit is caused from malpractice; however, if suspected it should be investigated.
