Forklift trucks are a commonly used tool in the construction, manufacturing and distribution industries and forklift injuries contribute significantly to the number of American workplace injuries each year. Forklift trucks pose only a small danger when operated by trained personnel according to appropriate site procedures. Any breach in these practices may however put both the forklift operator and other employees at risk. The most common causes of forklift injuries include the forklift tipping over due to overloading, pedestrians being struck by a moving forklift, loads falling from the forklift and employees standing on the forklift bed. It has also been suggested that the stress levels and demands placed on forklift operators by employers is a significant factor in many accidents.
