Drugs Recall

A drugs recall removes an over the counter or prescription medicine from the market. A recall can be issued for a number of reasons, but the majority of reasons pertain to fears over the safety of the product. This is often after unexpected side effects have been reported by patients taking the product, which were not discovered by the final stage (Phase III) of clinical trial which tested its safety and efficiency. In some cases drugs have been recalled due to deaths caused either directly or indirectly by the product. Some of the most recent drugs recalls were for Rimonabant (marketed as Accomplia), which was withdrawn due to a risk of severe depression and suicide, and Lumiracoxib, which was found to have serious side effects that included liver damage.
