Construction Safety Accidents

The construction industry has one of the highest accident rates of any profession, due to the high number of hazards which may be present on any site. These hazards include the operation of heavy equipment including diggers and cranes, lifting and moving large loads, some of which may not be particularly stable, and working on unstable, elevated levels, for example up ladders or on scaffolding. Despite the recognition that the construction industry may be quite dangerous, employers still have a responsibility to ensure that appropriate procedures are in place to make the site as safe as possible. Most construction safety accidents occur when these procedures are not correctly followed, for example when workers are allowed to operate machinery on which they have not been properly trained. The diverse range of risks found on the construction site means that the injuries sustained in construction safety accidents may also be varied, ranging from bumps and bruises to amputation, brain and spinal injuries and death.
