Consortium

A loss of consortium is a common damage that occurs in personal injury lawsuits. In most cases, it refers to the loss of sexual relations, which may have happened either directly or indirectly as a result of injury. A number of injuries are capable of causing this loss consortium, such as a paralysis-causing spinal cord injury. This most commonly affects the sexual relationship between two spouses, so not only would the injured party be capable of recovering these damages, his or her spouse could also recover damages of the same kind. In addition, a person might sue for loss of consortium if the injury has changed some other aspect of the relationship with their spouse, including care, companionship, affection, or monetary support. Likewise, loss of consortium, in some cases, may also be used as reason for damages if an injury has caused a change in relationship between child & parent.
