Class action is a type of lawsuit that is brought to represent a large group of people who have been similarly affected by a wrongdoing. Since many people have been affected, they decide to present the case to the court together, requesting that the court treats the case as a class action. With a class action, the arguments of all plaintiffs will be heard together, and a collective judgment of damages will be made by the judge. One advantage of a class action lawsuit is to the courts, who can fulfill the lawsuit in one process. A class action also makes certain that the severity of the defendant's actions are understood — numerous complaints emphasize that the defendant was wrong and can ultimately be favorable to the plaintiff. Often times the plaintiffs are represented by a common lawyer or consumer agency.
