There are a number of different doctors who are likely to be involved in treating a child with cerebral palsy. This includes specialists in treating the brain, nervous system and muscles, since these systems are all involved in the illness. Cerebral palsy doctors are all usually pediatricians as well, which means that they specialize in treating children. During the course of an illness, a child with cerebral palsy may also need to see an orthopedist, who specializes in treating problems with their bones and joints; a developmental pediatrician, who will assess how the child is growing; and a psychiatrist, who will ensure that the mental health of the child is looked after.
