Brain Injuries Children

Head injuries are common in children, especially very young children. There are several reasons for this, including the fact that very young children are prone to falling over, and may misjudge distances quite easily causing them to bang their heads quite frequently. There are many other sources of head injury in children however, including motor vehicle accidents, bicycle accidents, sports injuries and injuries sustained from child abuse. Many of these head injuries may also lead to serious brain damage, and may affect physical, mental and intellectual development, as well as normal body functioning such as mobility and communication. Brain injuries children sustain may be less obvious than when adults sustain brain injury, especially with young children who may not be able to communicate what has happened. It is important that any child suspected of having a head injury is seen by a pediatrician immediately to prevent possible complications from brain damage.
