Brain Damage Treatment

Brain damage is a complex injury that has a wide range of indications and disabilities that are difficult to treat and prognosis is different for each individual. Often, brain injuries are initially overlooked due to medical professional's focus being on saving the life of the individual. Brain damage treatment is entirely dependent on the type of brain injury, mild or severe. Brain injuries are typically classified mild if the loss of consciousness and disorientation is thirty minutes or less. Severe brain injuries have a loss of consciousness of longer than thirty minutes and memory loss of longer than twenty-four hours. After initial treatment, a trauma social worker will assist patients and their families in the correct path of treatment. Mild brain damage treatment may result in some physical and cognitive therapy along with psychological therapy to help the patient cope with their injuries. Severe brain damage treatment may require more intensive therapy and possibly a rehabilitative treatment center. If the patient is conscious, therapy can begin on cognitive skills, social skills, speech therapy and more. If the patient is not conscious, acute treatment is maintained to prevent secondary injuries in hopes of the patient regaining consciousness.
