Trovan

Trovan, also known as trovafloxacin, is a highly potent antibiotic used to treat a variety of illnesses. When it hit the market in 1998 it increased the manufacturer of the drug, Pfizerムs, fiscal sales by almost 15%. In 1999 the Food and Drug Administration issued an advisory to doctors to limit the use of trovan because studies pointed to serious physical developments in some patients that were attributed to trovan. Included in these developments were 14 cases of liver failure and 6 deaths. Ongoing cases of liver problems showed that damage was apparent with both short and long-term use. The Committee for Propriety Medicinal Products made a recommendation to the European Commission the discontinue the use of Trovan for one year while future information was gathered. Trovan is administered both orally and intravenously.
