Surgical Negligence

Although any type of surgery carries a number of recognized risks, occasionally patients may be injured not through unavoidable complications but through surgeon error or failure to provide appropriate care. This is known legally as "surgical negligence". There are different types of surgical negligence cases which may arise, for example a surgeon may fail to give a patient adequate information on the risks associated with a procedure, they may perform a procedure which is unnecessary, they may perform procedures which they are not qualified for, they may make a mistake when performing a procedure and fail to take appropriate corrective action, or they may perform the incorrect procedure. Surgical negligence may have serious repercussions for patients, leading to long-term complications, ill health, paralysis or even death.
