Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that presents in the thin layers of tissue that cover the majority of the body's internal organs which are called the mesothelium. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer and is classified into different types depending on what part of the internal organs are affected. It is thought that people who work with or around asbestos are more prone to developing mesothelioma. This is because of the nature of the asbestos material itself, extremely strong and resistant to heat, when broken down into dust form can be inhaled and lodge in the lungs and or stomach. They then irritate the tissue which can lead to mesothelioma, though it is unclear exactly how this happens.
