Medical Malpractice Liability

Medical malpractice liability is a term that means a healthcare professional, and or professionals, may be held liable for physical, psychological and financial damages a person suffers as a direct result of their negligence. Medical malpractice is a multibillion dollar industry with some payouts reaching to the million of dollars range. Because of this, healthcare professionals purchase medical malpractice liability insurance as a way to offset any out-of-pocket expenses they many incur if they are found at fault in a medical malpractice lawsuit. A single healthcare professional may be convicted of medical malpractice or a group of individuals may be found individually liable. This is referred to as joint and several liability. Under joint and several liability, a plaintiff may choose to seek full damages from all, some, or any one of the parties who have been found guilty of medical malpractice.
