Lead Paint Poisoning

Lead paint poisoning occurs when lead levels in a person body reach dangerously high levels. Children are especially susceptible to lead paint poisoning because they tend to put things in their mouths (paint chips) and play at floor level where lead dust is more prominent. Children who live in houses built prior to 1978 are at a higher risk also, because lead paint use wasn't banned in the United States until that time. Lead paint poisoning occurs over a period of time. It can some times be mistaken for another illness because many of the symptoms are similar to other types of illnesses. Symptoms of lead paint poisoning include loss of appetite, vomiting, paleness and abdominal pain. Other indications of lead poisoning are constipation, learning difficulties, and excessive fatigue.
