Elevator Accidents

Elevators are heavy, complex machines that can cause serious injury if they malfunction. Elevators have to be maintained and inspected annually to insure they are properly functioning. Elevator accidents can occur when the doors of the elevator close too quickly catching body parts in the process. Other accident can occur if the elevator malfunctions causing the elevator to stop or start abruptly resulting in passengers falling and hitting their heads. Small children who don't realize the danger of a closing elevator door are in danger of becoming crushed if the elevator door closes rapidly while they are attempting to board. Elevators that don't stop evenly with the floor can cause trip and fall accidents, resulting in injuries that range from mild to serious, depending on the severity of the fall. Building managers, elevator manufacturers, and elevator service companies can all be held liable for elevator injuries and be made to compensate the victim. Building managers are required to keep their elevators operating in a safe condition which is why they typically contract with an elevator service company. Should the elevator malfunction and cause injury, either one or both can be held responsible. There are attorneys who handle personal injury law that can consult on elevator accident cases.
