Electrocution Injuries

Electrocution injuries occur every day due to the human body coming into contact with electricity. Many electrocution injuries occur in workplaces, other occur due to damaged power lines or defective products. Electrocution injuries range from mild to severe to fatal. Mild electrocution injuries are merely unpleasant, tingling or burning sensations to the skin. Severe electrocutions cause massive tissue injury or even death. Electrical burns may be present on the body, both internally and externally. The heart may go into cardiac arrhythmia which can also be fatal. Other physical reactions that occur can include cataracts, renal failure, and loss of hearing due to ruptured eardrums. If the voltage is high enough, the current passing through the brain produces unconsciousness immediately. Brain damage may occur if the electrical current stays in contact with the body long enough. Often, electrocution leads to secondary injuries such as falls due to the muscle contractions when the electric shock occurs; aseptic shock; or infections due to the burns. Thermal burns from electrical flashes are also considered electrocution injuries even thought they do not involve the person coming in contact with the electricity. In some cases electrocution injuries can be the result of negligence. A personal injury attorney can review the details and make a determination concerning litigation.
