A drug recall is the act of notifying the proper manufacturers, distributors and retailers that a drug they handle has been found unsafe for consumer use and therefore is no longer allowed to be manufactured, distributed or sold to the general public. Most drug recalls are instituted by the Food and Drug Administrations (FDA) although there are times when a manufacturer will voluntarily recall one of its drug products. A Class I recall indicates that in all probability, the use of or exposure to a product will cause serious harm or death. A Class II recall indicates that exposure to or use of a product may cause temporary or medically reversible injury.
