Doctor negligence is a specific element of medical malpractice which applies only to physicians. Doctor negligence can take many forms but is basically the failure of any physician to exercise the appropriate level of skill, care and prudence which is necessary to prevent injury from occurring. Some of the most common forms of doctor negligence include a failure to correctly diagnose a condition, a failure to carry out the appropriate medical tests to make a correct diagnosis, a failure to prescribe medication appropriately and surgical error. This includes wrong site surgery which is a form of surgical error in which either the wrong procedure is carried out or a healthy part of a person is mistakenly operated on or removed. Doctor negligence can have potentially life-threatening consequences and can result in injury and disability as well as imposing an emotional and financial burden on victims.
