Cancer misdiagnosis is not only a common occurrence, but it's the number one medical error. There are an array of reasons for cancer misdiagnosis. Among others, the failure to order appropriate testing or understand the nature of a patient's complaints. Misinterpretation of test results and failure to order further testing. Mistaking a malignant mass for benign. Failure to order routine testing that is age appropriate, and failure to consider patient's family history of cancer. Cancer remains the number one cause of death in the United States, and the American Cancer Society estimated that nearly 1.4 million people were diagnoses with some form of cancer in 2008. Cancer can, and in all likelihood will, cause unmanageable debt for a victim of cancer misdiagnosis.
